Two Bridges Trail

This 1,600 foot trail segment begins in Newton Lower Falls on a spur of Clearwater St., transverses a gas line right of way on land owned by the City of Newton, crosses two bridges on an abandoned rail-bed that transverses both I-95/128 and the connector road (old Rt 128) to reach the Riverside MBTA station. Pedestrian access across these bridges provides direct access to the transportation hub at Riverside station, and connections to a regional path system along one of the most beautiful sections of the Charles River.

The RGWG applied and was granted funds for a study of trail options and a 25% design of this trail including recommendations for how the bridges would need to be modified and solutions to grade changes on either side of the bridges to achieve a ADA compliant accessible trail.

Download the study 10% design study conducted by the BSC Group.

Mark Development agreed as part of the special permit for the Riverside Development to fund the the 100% design of the Two Bridges Trail with links to the MBTA station Deforest Street in Lower Falls and a shared use path in the Leo J. Martin Golf Course.
